Wayne is a strong advocate for music education, giving clinics and teaching camps regularly. As a music education major at East Carolina University, he studied with Mark Ford (Director of Percussion Studies at University of North Texas), Harold Jones, Carroll Dashiell (East Carolina University, Maceo Parker, Bobby Watson, Ray Charles), and William Wiedrich.
He is currently on staff at George Walton Academy; a private school in Monroe, GA with an award winning band program. As Director of Percussion he teaches private lessons, arranges for marching band and percussion ensemble, teaches the marching percussion, coaches concert ensembles, and coordinates the percussion ensemble and percussion class. This year begins a new adventure with Jefferson High School as percussion director.
His goal as an educator is to mix a solid fundamental curriculum with real-world expectation and experience to prepare students who would like to continue playing drums and percussion seriously, study percussion in college, and/or play professionally. Some of his exceptional/notable past students include principal percussionist of the St. Louis Symphony, Will James, and Los Angeles Quartet member, Matt Cook. He is extremely proud of both Grammy winners!
In addition to teaching, he has written and arranged full percussion scores, battery scores, front ensemble scores, wind scores, and string ensembles for numerous middle schools, high schools, and college bands across the country.
